“Muddy Wave” Kills 50 Miners In Kachin State: The Price Of Jade

At least 50 people are reported to have died in a mudslide, described as a “Muddy Wave”, according to the Myanmar Fire Service Department.

Reports were emerging today from the Moe Nyein District in Kachin were a “landslide caused by the water pumping by miners in the old Ayeyarwady area,” reported the Fire Service Department this morning.

50 bodies have been recovered from what is believed to be a Jade mine and a rescue mission is currently underway to rescue others.
